My 1999 Jackaroo was recently diagnosed with a cracked cylinder head after running hot after a water pipe failure. Once I made the decision to replace the head (rather than scrap the vehicle, it has only done165,000km) I agreed to replace the timing belt, water pump, hoses, etc. Turned out the radiator was rotten, so replaced that also. Mechanic put it all back together but now he can't get it to start and run. He has had it all apart 4 times now and is convinced that everything is as it should be.
Checked compression - all good
Timing checked and rechecked
Has diesel flowing through the filter
Puffing white smoke when cranking, indicating fuel reaching cylinders
No faults are evident on his scanning tool.
Engine barely starts and dies almost immediately.
Mechanic has taken it as far as he can and is now stumped.
Can anyone help with a strategy to work through a process of elimination to find the fault?
Any 4JX1 experts in the Perth area?
Any help appreciated.
