Hello guys.
This question is probably for those with a bit of knowledge on the HEUI injectors the 4JX1 uses.
As we know, you can test an injector via tech 2 to see the if the electromagnetic coil and some of the internals are functioning correctly.
Since purchasing my Tech 2, I've had the chance to test quite a few injectors.
A good working injector out of a well running 4JX1 will make a loud, clear, metallic tick.
Recently I've tested two sets of injectors. Both vehicles were having issues, but It's unclear whether faulty injectors are to blame. One had a faulty RPCV coil which I believe is causing it's running issue.
Most of the injectors ticked quietly, one injector ticked loud once then quiet for the other 4 and another one ticked loud but sounded like it was swimming in a pool of oil.
Does any of these unusual ticks mean the injector is faulty or have excessive wear?
Or perhaps due to having no oil because it's been sitting for a few weeks?
Just because it ticks quietly, does that mean it isn't functioning?
The workshop manual mentions nothing about this different ticks and even says that if you cannot confirm hearing the ticks to take the sound proofing cover off! I would presume this would allow you to easily hear the quiet ticking injectors.
I don't have enough evidence to suggest an unusual tick dictates a non-functioning injector, so let me know your experience and/or thoughts and ideas.
Thanks,
