Gday all
so I was working an a jackaroo 4jx1 with starting issues ..
the symptoms .......was first thing in the morning she would need to crank and crank and crank to build up oil pressure,
after once she was running she would start 1st or 2nd crank ,,,but if it stood for any length of time specially over night maybe 10 to 15 seconds of cranking to start up
the owner had it serviced aproxx 2 months ago ie changed all oil and filters,, it has done very little kilometres since, and has been running and starting fine until just recently
after inspection here is what I found someone had installed a cheap filter
I changed the oil filter and had no starting problems after long periods
so I cut open the HP oil filter to find that the anti drain back valve (ADBV) wasn't seating correctly this filter is only 2 months old with less than a 1000 kilometres
some pictures of the cut open oil filter
here is the top of the filter note the eight small holes with green behind them
here inside the oil filter notice the ADBV is not central as its stretched and distorted
here is the valve notice how the valve has not been seating correctly,, as you can see the eight small inlet marks
conclusion
seamed like that the oil was running back over long periods ie over night .....enough to give the jack starting issues the filter was only 2 months old with less than one thousand kilometres
