Ok, 2000 Jackaroo.
Symptoms:
Idle is rough, sounds like it's missing. Gear lever and engine rock back and forth pretty badly, so bad to first assume broken engine mounts, but they are ok.
Will accelerate, but sometimes its missing power up till around the 2k mark then it kicks in.
Pretty well no power above about 3.5k, but I am not sure if thats by design.
It will sometimes come clean and run for a bit, smooth, but then slowly goes back to missing/rocking. On the highway it seems to be ok.
It's displaying the petrol engine symptoms of a bad ignition lead.. but being a diesel it makes no sense.
Sometimes it will just run on 3 cylinders only, other times... it nearly comes good. There is no real pattern to it. Hot or Cold.
When its doing it you can actually hear the turbo surge a little as well, the whistle "wavers"
Things done so far:
Complete flush and oil change.
Both oil filters replaced.
Injector cleaner put through the tank.
There is no engine check light at all.
Checked all hoses, found a missing vacuum line between EGR and something else, both T pieces just hanging in the air, so after consulting diagrams, i replaced that vacuum line.
Things i plan on doing soon:
Pull out and clean the ORPCV.
If that doesnt work, replace the ORPS.
After that, get all 4 injectors pulled and cleaned and tested.
So... anyone else had this issue? How can you tell which cylinder is missing if it is?
Could it be something like a bad solenoid on an injector? Loose connections? injector harness?
It's driving me batty. Its only getting about 600 k to the tank as well, which is pretty damn average too. I am thinking thats because we are leadfooting it when its in 3 cylinder mode...
Still learning about this engine though. Lots of information out there on it.. lots to go wrong.....
