OIL SPINNERS or CENTRIFUGES

Ok, so due to popular demand, we have opened this topic for discussion.

Has anyone ever converted their 4JX1 Oil filtration system, into a similar method employed by the land rover discovery TD5 - which uses centrifugal forces to clean oil, rather than rely upon mechanical media filtration?

I have seen these centrifuges advertised on eBay for around $100 + freight for the smallest cleanable/reusable centrifuge, and it appears as though they only require a Oil Filter sandwich billet to convert the Z79 filter housing, to adapt to implement the centrifuge.

I have read in the 4JX1 workshop manual where both Z79A & Z600 oil filters have an 85psi bypass, and coincidentally most centrifuge filtration seems to allow up to 100psi or 7Bar to operate successfully, so it would appear that one might not need to add a dedicated electric oil pump to drive the centrifuge.

Whilst it all sounds good in theory, are there potential pitfalls which one might need to be aware of to avoid catastrophic damage to their engine. The point being not to eliminate the need for Z79A or Z600, but to extend their service life whilst maintaining the best possible oil quality for this motor which seems extremely sensitive to engine oil quality.

So has anyone ever done it on their 4JX1 and was it successful or not? If not, why not, etc...?

Don't know what its all about, then here is some further reading:-
