Rodeo - draining water separator

Hi all, sorry for the silly question, don't know jack about cars but trying to learn so I don't have to run to the mechanic with simple things like this!

Couple weeks back had my fuel pump and filter replaced due to a faulty fuel pressure regulator (common problem with the rodeos I'm told) so I was not happy to see a warning light come on last night! Light came on to drain the water separator so pulled over and tried to figure it out myself, manual is pretty brief and the only diagram seemed to be indicating to two parts - a yellow plug and a nut/bolt. Assumed it wasn't the bolt (which I wouldn't be able to undo with just my hands anyway) so I unscrewed the yellow plug and nothing came out. Drove to my destination and now the warning light is faint, still there but can hardly see it. Tried again and failed to work it out so left it for a few hours, now there's no warning light whatsoever! (Don't know if it's a factor but we had heavy rain that day and 10 mins prior I had driven through a deep puddle).

Question is am I good now that the light is gone, did it sort itself? If not and/or for future reference how do I drain the water?? I'll put up a couple pics to make it easier -
