Knocking near bottom of 3.2L motor

Hi All

I have a 3.2l Jackaroo that has a new motor with about 90,000k on the clock. It's developed a knock in the engine or possibly transmission after being driven for a while. It is not rocker or tappets as these are not rattling. Thought it may have been the timing belt tensioner but my mechanic tested and okay. He feels it is coming from within the motor down low maybe bottom bearing of some sort but is puzzled.

You can hear it best from under the driver side door after a long drive when you wind down the window hense I thought maybe auto transmission issue.

I would like to keep the Jack for another couple of years. It only does about 10,000k a year at present as my wife is not working but don't know whether I should worry or just get rid of it.

Apart from the knock she runs beautifully. No overheating. Yes blows a little smoke and burns a little oil but no real issue there. The knock seems more prevallent in gear but that maybe guessing.

Was wondering if anyone has had similar issue or got some ideas I can check or even trial a few things. Get a little sick of paying for mechanics to spend timing for for things. Maybe an auto transmission place may put an ear over it.

Anyway thanks in advance for your thoughts.

GLD
