hi all, my first post on any site like this, seems like a good forum to start.

i have just bought a 2003 Jackaroo with 4jx1 and auto trans, love the car but having a hard time getting it to run properly.

  • 170,000kms
  • starts ok (with a few extra cranks than average at cold but good when warm, will change glow plugs later).
  • idles rough (gets better when warm).
  • wont rev above 2000rpm cold, increases to 3000 warm in park or neutral (almost 3500 after running for long time)
  • wont change gears properly, reluctant to get out of first gear (second when warm)
  • no power (crawls at like 15km/hr up hills)

Read alot of posts and have theories but havnt found anyone with symptoms like mine.

what ive done since owning

  • got a mobile mechanic (who appeared to not know too much about this motor-intitialy didnt know where to connect his diagnostic tool) to have a quick look who said injector code only one showing.
  • changed both oil filters (need to change fuel filter next)
  • engine oil flush and new 5w30 synthetic oil
  • new exhaust manifold gasket (was blown out when bought it, at least i can hear the engine over the exhaust now!)
  • re-attached little vacuum hose that had come loose (interesting one as this made the green transmission light flash continuously which i thought was an engine warning light)
  • fitted new ORPS
  • gave injector harness a quick spray with cleaner and compressed air
  • dismantled and cleaned oil pressure valve (the one on high pressure oil pump)
  • cleaned (sprayed with contact cleaner) most contact/sensors i can find.
  • rang local holden dealer who said injectors work had been done as part of recall campaign in 2006

still running the same after my efforts so far. not keen to run out and buy new injectors just yet. hear too many stories that new injectors weren't the solution. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks, Ryan.
