Hi, havent been on for a while, as my Jackaroo has been trusty, and working on some other project cars
Some time ago I noticed that my early '98 3.5L V6 petrol Jackaroo would intermitently commence idling very high and oscilating up and down between 1300 to 1400 RPM at 1 second intervals.
Recently this problem has become more common.
I have also discovered the problem seems to be present most, if not all the time if I hold the RPM under a higher RPM with no load.
ie if I rev to 2000RPM and hold my foot dead still, it will move from 2000 to 2100 with no altered throttle input.
At higher RPM, you cant tell.
There is no engine error codes when I scanned it
I have in the past had or seen vehicles with some problem with "idler stepper motors", whch invariably required an expensive repalcement (I think)
Any clues based on what I said ?
ps, the only unusual thing that has happened otherwise is that a small hose developed a pinhole leak and sprayed a sensor with hot steam a couple of times, the sensor is at the front top of the engine on the Drivers side, I am not sure its function.
Have spoken to a couple of mechanics, they could offer no clues, and it usually stops playing up (idling issue) after 1 drive to the next
