Hi there, I am hoping someone can help me with my Fronty. Generally a fantastically reliable car, but on occasions has a few issues. And yes I have trawled every forum I can find!
It is a 2000 Frontera 4door V6 S manual. Has around 118,000k's on the clock (just in case that info is needed)
The very first time an issue came up was after a long hot drive out to Lightning Ridge. Put the clutch in to change down and the car was revving around 2500-3000 revs, would not calm down until turned off. Played up for a while then sorted itself out.
Since then it has done similar things occasionally, but is getting more frequent. Here are the main things it does in no specific order and yes I have had it to the mechanics many times (they have cleaned and tried different things) and just recently went to the auto electricians to scan for error codes and nothing (they ran it for 2 hours and drove it, but as usual it would not play up for them)
Car on starting sometimes will hunt for normal idle speed.
Very occasionally will stall but starts easily (recently had to restart at least 10 times and run it for a couple of minutes before I could take my foot of the accelerator without it stalling)
Will be driving along and suddenly notice it is revving higher than usual (and will take off up the road) and it will rev even more when you depress the clutch, the revving will sometimes decrease if you take it out of gear and release clutch while it is still running. Usually have to turn it off and restart, but that does not guarantee normal idling. Have also noticed lately the car it doing this around half an hour into a trip when I am carrying passengers as opposed to just me in the car.
Also it appears to be worse in winter than at other times of the year and I have noticed if I do not let the car warm up or drive heavy footed to start it will carry on too.
Thanks in advance.
