G'day folks,
It's been a long time since I've posted on this site & I can see Jack owners are still having fun with these wonderful 4JX1's.
The old bus I've still got has been essentially a spare car for the last 3 years & has generally been reasonably reliable until late last year when it decided to have another few moments which have forced me to get out the spanners & multimeter many times to get the damn thing running again. I can recall that in the past I have posted that these things were "character building". My opinion of them still remains the same.......
Now to cut a long story short, about 18 months ago I replaced the ORPS (I didn't get it programmed) & all was well until it started missing (stuttering) again occasionally about 4 months ago.. I then replaced the TPS & all was well for a few weeks until I started losing the throttle pedal. Not fun when you're in traffic!!!! Pulled the accelerator pedal out & mucked around with the potentiometer & decided to replace it as well. I did flash the fault codes & code 21 (accelerator pedal high-low voltage) came out. Thus after replacing the pot I found I had a loud pedal however acceleration was a little 'jerky" from 2,500 through 3k. I was happy to live with that until now as I'm back to having an intermittent throttle again................bugger!!!!
My question now is does the accelerator pedal pot need programming?. I'm now throwing fault codes 21 & the old favourite 63 (ORPS HV-LV). I have a switch on the main loom while wire & I don't believe that the ORPS is again buggered as the motor idles pretty much fine & revs quite well when my loud pedal actually works. Opening the white wire switch makes no difference at all to motor idle or throttle response. I'm a bit baffled........
As a further aside to this old bus, my youngest son the day after getting his P's promptly reversed the thing into the back of our house & has smashed up the RH bumper bar, tail lights & rear quarter panel. House damage was fairly minimal. At least I got it re-registered before his fine driving effort. Thus, as the thing is looking pretty sad in the rear & also that I have no intentions of getting any panel beating etc done on it, I'm not prepared to throw a heap of $$$ at it & was planning on trading it before the house impact, so can any of the gurus on this site offer me any suggestions as per my crap throttle issue?
Thanks folks,
Cheers,
Dave
