Thermatic fan conversion

Hi all,

After reading earlier posts about converting to to an electric thermatic fan, I thought I'd do the same.

However, I decided I didn't like the idea of bolting an aftermarket unit straight to the radiator core, so started looking for an alternative.

After prowling around a couple of wrecking yards, I found this dual fan unit at Salisbury Wrecking ...

It's out of a '95 Ford Mondeo and the cowling is marginally smaller than the radiator on the Frontera (which is why I chose it). Cost me $66!

I tested both motors and they worked fine - so then I had to figure out how to attach it.

So far I've made a frame to adapt the new cowling to the radiator (from 25x25 angle iron) ...

This is unfinished as I still have to make brackets to attach the frame to the radiator itself - but unfortunately that's going to have to wait until the New Year :(

Together, the fans and frame look like this ...

For fan control, I picked up a Davies Craig thermatic switch and hose adaptor kit from Bursons Auto Parts in Deshon St, Wooloongabba - just over $72 for the two kits.

Which brings me to a question (for any auto sparkies out there) ...

The wiring diagram for the switch suggests using two 4-pin relays - one for each motor. Is there any reason why I can't use a single 5-pin relay (30Amp) as I already have one in good condition?

I'll update when I've made some more progress.

Cheers,

Benn
