I would just like to start by saying hi to everyone on here, you guys helped me decide on wanting a jack with the 3.0. we have 4 Jackaroos in the family 3 being petrol as we always believed the 4jx1 was a curse. Determined to prove my family wrong i somehow managed to fine a 2003 Monterey in pristine condition with every option but the sunroof which i have affectionately named Grumbles. The car has done 205000kms and when i got it 4 weeks ago drove amazingly, had great power, (although had a flat spot just above 3000rpm but il talk about this later) extremely comfy and was great to drive (coming from a 88 2.6). Right from when i got the car, starting the engine was always a bit odd. It would always crank for exactly 5 seconds before bursting in to life and settling down to a extremely smooth idle. (hot or cold) i thought that it was just the nature of the beast and left it at that. However. (now the fun part). On Tuesday i jumped in, turned the key started cranking and...... nothing. second attempt it spluttered then died. As i have been reading everyones posts on here and they are all extremely helpful i know straight away to check for oil in the harness, sure enough it was full, cleaned that out but still no start. next step was to cut the white wire. (i removed it from the plug with some help from my dad) crank over and hey presto Grumbles burst back in to life after a 5 second crank as if nothing was wrong. The check engine light was on and after revving the engine upon returning to idle it would stumble for a few seconds then catch its breath and be smooth again. The car drove like this but with no power as its in limp mode. This in my mind proved to me it was the orps so i now have another on order. Reconecting the white wire up allows the car to start again but i still get check engine light with the codes P1196, P0193 and C3500. I'm going to fit the sensor as soon as it arrives. my question is the after the symptoms i had, should i go after the orpcv as well? when it was running it had real bad economy (14+ l per 100) and also had a flat spot above 300 to 3500 rpm. I have had people comment that the exhaust smelt strong and i admit i noticed that as well but thought it was the new caltex premium diesel. Not sure if this is also related but the gearbox (i have the tod system) is also funny, if i take my foot off the throttle it goes to idle after a few seconds, and some of the changes happen at weird intervals. I don't have a tech 2 yet, thats next on my list of things to save for, but i do have a obd2 reader that i can read the computer codes and clear them with. Any pointers with changing the orps would be appreciated i.e how to pre-fill the oil rail. I have noticed someone has braised a fitting to the high pressure oil rail pipe.
Thanks in advance for any help.
i have (hopefully) attached a picture of Grumbles.
Regards,
Chris.
