98 jackaroo. Want more power and a few extras for touring.

Hi, it's been a while since I've been on here. I was recently thinking of flicking the roo and buying a new car mainly for more power but I love my roo and it's worth a lot more to me than what I would get for it so I'm thinking spending a bit of cash on her instead of buying a new car.
What I have is a 98 turbo diesel with 330000, 140 litre tank, bull bar, tow bar, uhf in roof console, side steps, the lifted springs with 30mm Packers on top for max lift, solid flywheel etc. I've done an orps,tps and injector seals so I know enough about the engine to get me out of trouble.
I would like a few extras to make her a bit more of a tourer as I am into drag racing and want to be able to tow my car to quite a few different tracks (hence wanting more power) and I will need to sleep in the car while I am away.
I want to remove the intake manifold and clean it out as I know there is a lot of crap in there. Does cleaning the manifold make much difference. I've had the gasket here for about 3 years. Can't rush into these things. How much crap can I scrape from the ports in the head while the manifold is off. I guess it's near useless doing the manifold if the head is still choked up with crap. I'm not pulling the head off.
Does removing or modifying the egr make any difference to power? And how do I do the egr mod?
I also want to fit roof racks or a roof basket to put some of my crap up there leaving me room to sleep in the car. I would love something 2nd hand if u know of anything. I would definitely need to lower the car for a roof basket so it still fits in the shed. I would be interested to know how high a basket is from the roof line to the top of the basket.
There's a lot more I'd like to do but I'm sure your sick of reading my long post so this will do for now. Any help is appreciated. Benni.
