Hope this helps others. My father's  2001 V6 had been converted to gas, before he had bought it. During his trip through the center and WA, he had to replace the gas diaphragm. It had been eaten out, and it caused the engine to backfire. A couple of weeks ago the engine started missing and he traced it back to a burnt valve in number 5 cylinder. We stripped the engine down. The hose from the passenger side bank , to the gas diaphragm didn't have a pcv valve fitted, it makes sense now, that the gas diaphragm was eaten out by the hot engine fumes. The new diaphram was starting to get choked with oily carbon.
