Building lists of 4JX1 info and specs

$

0
Hey All

The purpose of this thread is to assemble accurate info on the 4JX1 and make it a first port of call for info. We all have bit and pieces of the puzzle and there are threads but it’s a bit all over the shop – jackablue (many thanks) gave the idea by his bringing some threads together in the sticky in this forum.

So firstly; Take the poll please, its a lot of work to do this idea and we'd like to get some feedback on if you'll all support the project

There is the issue of proprietary info that GMH feels should not be "out there". IMO, silly them for ever releasing the service CD's as an authorised aftermarket purchase in the first place to both private purchasers and repairers. IMO, though, to lock up info on an orphan model that they are de-stocking parts and backup for is petty and alienating. Then there is the fact that Isuzu Trucks, Australia has the (ex-Rodeo) 4JH-1TC in the Sitec 125 NPR trucks that makes their position on information just plain silly. And that’s just one example. But enough whinging.

But we have to respect GMH’s intellectual property. So then, cut and paste from GMH info and formats would be out.
Pete is going to make this new thread a sticky. If anyone has any accurate info, post it. The info will be sorted.

This means:

1) Part numbers, original or aftermarket supplier.
2) Trouble shooting procedures
3) Repair information (torque values…)
4) Fault codes
5) Alternate part number
6) Repair procedures – like DaneH’s contribution on the ORPS procedure (kudos!)

When there are enough entries, it will be assembled into either a blog or articles system that Pete is still hunting up. Further expansion to the 6VE1 and the Jackaroo in general might be the go but we’ve got to start somewhere first.

I’m thinking alphabetical order but any suggestions?

I’m figuring if we don’t look after ourselves, no one else is going to do it for us?

Fuel pump timing off

Hey guys

I'm in the process of changing a water pump and thought I'd check the timing belt condition and noticed that the aligning mark for the fuel pump is off a bit - this might help explain its poor performance!

Would it simply be a case of loosening the tensioner and then turning the the main bolt on the FP to align it?

Anybody fitted Bilstein shocks to wide track (or standard) Jackaroo?

Bilstein Australia have three shock part numbers for the front of the Jackaroo

B46-1738-H1  or (24-191180) firmest

B46-2076  or (24-020763) intermediate    (also for Colorado)

B46-1738c or B46-1738-H2   or (24-191197) most comfort    (specified in USA for Trooper)

Bilstein only specify 1 for the rear B46-1739-H1 (24-017398)

Any body have any knowledge about these on either a lifted or stock suspension Jackaroo?

Fried tech 2

I have had the unit for only a month, on the weekend trying to start the engine after replacing a faulty injector (thanks Brian) the tech 2 was plugged in but not on. Battery was flat so hooked the charger up and put it on jump start setting and started to wind over engine at the same time heard some cracking from tech 2. When I tried to turn tech 2 on nothing. Not good.

So now my delemer is, is it warranty? do I take the warranty sticker off and inspect inside?  Don't think it would be warranty as the car must have spiked the unit in some way. Live and learn by the look of it.

Oil Rail Pressure Control Valve further dismantling.

This follows on from  Oil Rail Pressure Sensor Valve Rebuilding for 4JX1 engine.   which shows the dismantling up to the point at which I have started.

I had an old ORPCV laying around and have been unable to fully dismanle it without destroying it. However I found it laying in a bucket of water "rusted -up" so I figured I had nothing to loose. The following pictures show that the main valve is in the end (trumpet) section and works by opening and closing the 4 unevenly spaced holes. The rest of the valve appears to be the control section that opens and closes the valve itself through the electric solenoid. Even though mine was corroded there was considerable metal fragments inside making the valve stick and causing the need for its replacment.

At first I tried grinding from the nipple end but after a while changed tact and cut in from the side with a cut-off saw until I could see what was inside.

The end cap which usually has a nipple on the end and a microscopic hole does not appear to be threaded and is simply pushed in.  I believe this part of the valve should be able to be dismantled normally by using a pin punch down the bell end and tapping gently.

The bore or the valve body is straight with a step (out at the threaded end) for a circlip on the valve body to seat against which means that everything comes out the threaded end.

Perhaps someone else could varify that the valve can be dimantled in this way and fully serviced and cleaned.

As the title says, I want to remove the Eurovox single DIN radio / DVD from my Jackaroo Equipe and replace it with a Double DIN Radio / DVD / touch screen after market units.

Can't find any on-line which claim to fit the Jack, was wondering if anyone knows of anyone having fitted such a unit, and if so, what type?

Thanks.

6ve1 rodeo problem after problem

Right hi guys I'm a newby and been anxiously waiting validation of my account to ask some questions of the awesome community of Australia4wd.

To start my truck is a 04 LT RA petrol v6 dualcab rodeo
Couple weeks back the starter motor crapped out on me and I had to roll start it a few days to get to work before I could afford a new starter and hd battery..the last day I rolled her the elusive CHECK 4WD light appeared and I couldnt clear it nor shift into 4WD the green dash lights just flashed no hubs locking or even trying to lock..

the next day I replaced the starter and the battery because the starter killed the old one..and she started better than ever....but!!
oh god there's always a but...now there is NO check 4WD light, 4WD switches dont respond, ABS light and handbreak light are on constantly and the RPM tacho does not work :s it's got me and my mechanic stumped..

It's also got check engine light on and it's chugging whilst under load at light revs but I don't think that is related to the dash/4WD problem maybe a bad spark.

I've just done a full filter and fluid change and about to put some iridium plugs in it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
p.s sorry for the long winded opener..cheers

Oil Rail Pressure Sensor Valve Rebuilding for 4JX1 engine.

Hello,

A common problem i have experienced over 3 models with this engine whilst in my ownership has been this part that caused erratic running after a while (hesitation in acceleration and lumpy operation at steady throttle). I needlessly spent money replacing the wiring loom and other parts when it was finally traced to this.

Whilst in Thailand I took the liberty of going to an Isuzu dealership and purchasing what was the last part of this type in existence according to dealers database. If so I feel sorry for all other 4JX1 owners as this part will playup/fail in time and the vehicle will be a ###### to drive. I paid 8,150 Thai Baht for it which equated to AUD$271 where at the Holden dealer down here they quoted me $650 for parts that were in stock. Just a rip off for us long suffering Jackeroo owners. I would have purchased all their stock if they had more and sold it on EBay locally at even half the dealer price..

The Part number is 8-97174872-0 Valve : Rail Pressure Sensor as read off the carton the part it comes in. And guess what? It says Made in USA on the carton! Can you believe that? But it has Isuzu Motors Limited Japan genuine part written as well.

Now anyone who may know more about this componant in the mechanical field, this part is a very simple looking piece of gadgetry. What can wrong with it to cause the erratic running where I think it sends the wrong data to the ECU not allowing the correct fuel injection volumes to be sprayed into the motor.
It has this plunger type thing inside where you can push it down with a pen. Can they be dismantled and cleaned out? What can wear inside? Do they get ingested with diesel soot where the parts are prevented from functioning? Can we let it soak in solvent for a week?

I have an old one from a previuos model and the brand new in the box that will need to go into our 2002 as this vehicle has the same symptoms in the last few thousand KM's as the past ones. I feel that this may become a critical issue for owners as due to the absence of this part the entire vehicle may need to be scrapped due to it becoming undrivable.
A great 4WD where all it needed to be continued in the marketplace was a simple engine change to a 4JJ1.

Alex.

Cheap 5w-30 deal at Holden

$

Hey guys just thought Id give everyone the heads up on a good deal going at Holden. They're doing 20L drums of Acdelco dexos2 suitable for diesel engines full synthetic 5w-30 for around $121(normally $330).

This works out to be around $30 for 5 Litres which is a bargain when  you look at the prices at supercheap etc, where you'd be paying $70- $80 for full synthetic in that viscosity!

I bought 2 drums, so shouldn't be needing to buy oil for a while smile.png

Hi all,

well the dramas continue.

I've had a blown head gasket for awhile and have got it down at a local mechanic, only to be told my head is cracked and I have a scored bore.

Fun days.

The bore will just have to keep as I'm not rebuilding the bottom end or putting a new motor in.

So I now need to find either a good scond hand head or pick up a new one of ebay or the likes. Does anyone have any advice?

or a head that they would like to sell or give ;) me?

thanks in advance.

My old frontera dropped 3cyls so i then saw a another thinking i have done the right thing by myself  to surprise the mrs.

I bought it for the first 2weeks it was good, then it started to overheat after 15mins of driving.Ok found out the it has new timing belt valves head gaskets was happy toi hear that but when the FOOLS done the work they never cleaned the head good enough so the radiator got blocked up with all the metal fillings ,found out who done the job surprise surprise they have no record of doing such a thing?  cause the caryard paid cash no receipts .I CHANGED RADIATOR with my spare that fixed that.Ok now theres another problem at idle it misses real bad but good when revs pick up anyway found out it is the spark plug tube seal leaking oil,I rang caryard and they are passing the buck onto the other place that has fixed the heads but cause there is no reciepts they dont wont to do it,I dont know what  to do just being out of hos[ital with major operation i cant deal with it at the moment but the mrs needs a car.....Is it hard to fix  the spark plug tube seals? i really need help

Need Help to identify fault codes RA rodeo diesel

$

Hi, I have broken down and need some help, all the workshops are shut.

My car is a 2005 RA Rodeo ,it has the isuzu engine with the intercooler at the front.

The engine just cut out while i was driving with the check engine light on. I turned ignition of and restarted and it was fine but with the engine light staing on for a few seconds after start.

after driving 5klm it suddenly wouldnt rev above idle with check engine light again.

I have stopped on side of road in wagga and read the fault codes by bridging pin 6 to earth.

I am getting

flash,flash,pause,flash   just once

long pause

5 flashes,pause, 6 flashes

repeats 3 times

2 flashes,pause,1 flash

repeats 3 times.

then whole sequence repeats

I think this is

code 12  (maybe saying ecu is talking ok?)

code 56 no idea

code 21 no idea

and also not sure why high number shows first.

I have checked the flash sequence several times and sure the above is correct.

Does anyone have or know where a list of the fault codes is or know what the above ones are.

Help much appreciated,

Pete

After many years of great trips and great memories and the acquiring of a company vehicle the jack has moved on. After having it for a year and a half not wanting it to go whilst i had a company vehicle i had to finally let go. Was a great truck that traveled to every state except WA. The new happy owner got a bargain of a well equipped 4wd. The only thing i have left is a storage box i made from aluminum tubing and ply, covered in marine carpet. If anyone is interested in this let me know.

Nearly runs but wont fire up after some ideas.

Hi gents

Has anyone had their motors nearly run but just wont fire up ?  When I cut the white wire (orps) it runs fine but as soon as I replace it she wont run just nearly gets there but wont go . I have replaces the orps , injector seals , tps . I tried to compression test it and broke 3 glow plugs so I took the head off removed the broken ones and fitted it back up  . It has very small crack in the glow plug hole of 3 cylinders but i dont know if that would be causing my problem , as the compression is fine.

When It runs I get 2.7 volts at the white wire (orps) , It doesn't blow any smoke .

Any ideas would be great.

Rail pressure control valve

Pressure control valve

Recommend retail price $680. (Obviously dealer dependant)
Part # G*8971748720

The rail pressure control valve is in the high pressure oil circuit.
It is an important device which is used to control oil pressure in the HEUI system.

Symptoms if faulty (these occurred to me and replacing the valve fixed all of them MAY 2009)
1/ shuddering or missing like petrol engine
2/ below average horse power and performance
3/ slight rise in fuel consumption
4/ delayed auto change down and laboring in all gears

Generally a good strip and clean of the mechanical parts would suffice but my valve had substantial corrosion which prevented smooth operation.

Speaking to the mechanic who found and cleaned mine said a lot of the problems associated from dirty oil.
Being either from not changing the small oil filter regularly enough this will cause a blocked filter and the bypass valve will open allowing unfiltered oil into the fuel pump side circuit or letting the oil degrade leaving residual deposits of crud.

In my case the previous owner doing too many short trips to get the paper and not getting engine oil to operating temperature to evaporate condensation.

Preventative maintenance would suggest frequent oil and filter changes (including small one), a few extra dollars every 5000klms will save break downs due to bad oil condition.

To replace or disassemble the control valve DIY.

1/ Check if you have a selection of 1 1/8 open spanners or tube socket.(a normal socket won’t fit around the flange)
2/ good idea to check if dirt or sand are in the area because you are going to expose the high pressure oil pump to contaminates
3/ good light this fella is in a bad spot
4/ remove passenger front wheel or jack up so it drops away. ( Rh drive vehicle)
5/ remove small rubber skirt to gain access to engine bay from wheel arch
6/ identify valve and disconnect electrical connection it has small clip just for added fun
7/ remove pressed metal nut, sleeve and coil.
8/ using 1 1/8 spanner or tube socket unscrew valve from pump
9/ the valve does come apart by unscrewing the front part where the oil holes are (mine had vice grip marks on it).
10/ inspect condition and clean
11/ carefully reassembly not to over tighten pressed metal nut

Hopefully you’ve got good results.

Cheers Diemonty
