Seen this before....brake pads

$

My brakes (front) were displaying dust on the rims and starting to squeal very occasionally, so went to change them. At looking at them still on...they looked pretty new, however the top was coming close to the steel wear marker.
Anyway took them fully off and that's what I found (pics)

It appears someone has grinded the angles on them? It is on all four of them and the grind marks are opposite to the normal marks?

Why in the world would someone do this? They fit in very easy?

I can't see any possible way for normal wear on rotors to cause this
I find it a bit funny

Tech 2 readings with ORPS failed

Last Sunday I replaced one injector and wiring harness and by strange luck I didn't connect Oil rail sensor properly. While test drive got long start, CheckEngine light always on and heaps of white/light grey smoke at rpms higher than 2000

At Live data section of Tech 2 I got only 3 unusual readings

Oil pressure desired - 10 MPA

Oil pressure real - 27 MPA

RPCV was about 45% open and closing down to 35-38% while accelerating more than 2000 rpm

DTC section of Tech 2  contains a MIL code about high voltage from ORPS

Top end was opened, sensor connected properly and everything is fine now...

Cheers

My 4jx1 started mixing oil and diesel, suspected problems with injectors and sleeves.
Im just a young bloke who loves his jackaroo and wants it up and running again because they're beasts to drive. I was wondering if anyone would have a tool to spare or any advice for me.

Clutch problems

$

The clutch on my Jackaroo has stopped working. The pedal went down without disengaging the clutch and having pulled the pedal back up it will no longer go down.

Master cylinder has correct level of fluid, no detectable leaks.

I've removed the inspection cover where the slave cylinder goes into the bell housing. The fork (on the outside) is against the pressure plate. It clearly isn't pulling(?) against anything in the centre of the clutch. The fork is pivoting normally on its pivot pin.

Having looked at the workshop manual, it appears the clutch is disengaged by the release bearing pulling the cover plate diaphragm spring. It seems that there is a breakage in whatever connects the release bearing to the diaphragm spring.

Am I on the right track? If so, can this be fixed without taking the pressure plate off - I can't work out what connects the release bearing to the diaphragm spring?

Any help appreciated!!

PDF Service Manuals

Hi all,

A member of one of the US Trooper forums has made these manuals available for download. They are in PDF format and very detailed.

To uncompress the archives below you will need to download WinRAR from here. For the multi-part archives, download all the parts for the manual you want into the same folder and then use WinRAR to extract the first part. The remaining parts should automatically extract.

The detail in each manual is internationally generic or US specific. However in the RHD Isuzu Trooper manual, when you see a reference to IGM models, that would normally include the Jackaroo (but not always). These manuals are extremely close in detail to the Holden manuals and a lot better than the $8/$12 UK sourced CDs being sold on eBay. And ... they're free!

So, which manual do you need?

For Holden Jackaroo L8/U8 with the 3.5V6 and 3.0TDi, download all 4 parts of the 98-02 RHD Isuzu Trooper manual. This manual also includes the 3.1TD from the older Troopers, as it was still available in some markets in the later model Troopers. This manual can be useful to the 92-98 model owners as a lot of components are shared (eg suspension, brakes, some bodywork, transfer systems, etc) –

part 1 of 4 – 30Mb – http://www.zupload.com/download.php?file=g...&filepath=21852
part 2 of 4 – 30Mb – http://www.zupload.com//download.php?filepath=21905
part 3 of 4 – 30Mb – http://z11.zupload.com//download.php?filepath=4198
part 4 of 4 – 7.2Mb – http://z11.zupload.com//download.php?filepath=4128

For Holden Frontera MX with the 3.2V6 and 2.2 4cyl, download the 2000 LHD Isuzu Trooper/Rodeo/Amigo. Once you have it, you will only need the Isuzu Rodeo bit –

part 1 of 1 - 30.6Mb - http://z15.zupload.com/download.php?file=g...e&filepath=6305

For Holden Rodeo R7/R8/R9 with the 3.2V6, 2.4Di & 2.8TDi, download the 5 parts of the 97-01 LHD Isuzu TFR/TFS Pickup manual (btw, these are in english and spanish) –

part 1 of 5 – 30Mb - http://www.zupload.com/download.php?file=g...&filepath=21361
part 2 of 5 – 30Mb - http://www.zupload.com/download.php?file=g...&filepath=21360
part 3 of 5 – 30Mb - http://z15.zupload.com/download.php?file=g...e&filepath=6253
part 4 of 5 – 30Mb – http://z15.zupload.com/download.php?file=g...e&filepath=6302
part 5 of 5 – 7.9Mb - http://z15.zupload.com/download.php?file=g...e&filepath=6272

I’m told that the zupload site will automatically delete files that have not been active/downloaded within the previous 30 days. It’s also not a guaranteed service so if you want to download, find a fast internet connection and get cracking before it all disappears into the ether.

EDIT- 13 Oct 05 - All files have now been reloaded after zupload's server crash. So they should (hopefully) be available now for at least the next 30 days.

Hey Guys, I'm just wondering if anyone out there has done a heap of performance upgrades.. except for chips on their 4jj1 3.0 ltr diesel engine as i would like to learn what you can get away with on a diesel engine without blowing it up. I'm an apprentice D mechanic so im new at mod'ing.

I'd also like to know about bigger turbos or even twin turbo to get rid of bottom end lag. I've seen a 9 second Colorado on you tube so i know this engine has great potential.

Thanks.

Hi Guys

Just wondering if anyone can offer me some assistance in terms of trying to source a 92 Inhibitor Switch for my Jackaroo

I have tried genuine Holden Parts and they advise that they do not stock anything prior to a 98....just my luck, I have also tried many other sites, wreckers....Ebay,....but to no avail

Would anyone know of any after market sites that suit the 92 Inhibitor Switch.....as I am getting desperate

Injector Sleeve Repair (Do It Yourself) Step by Step

$

Hello everyone !!
I recently had to do the dreaded injector sleeve seals and it was hard to find all the information and piece it together so I took photos from start to finish listing everything the part numbers photos of the Sleeve tools Home made and even the real holden tool, There is also the Holden letter step by step removal/installation of the tool but I figured hey I will add to it with my own photos and experiences as I did it on my driveway alone with no 4jx1 experience previously and I am not a practising mechanic. So here goes.

Step 1:
So start with draining the car of fluid 2x Oil Filters (Z600, Z79A) take the pressure out of the fuel system also by removing the fuel filter(Donaldson P550225 FF Part Number) found next to the passenger side battery behind the ECU (Engine Computing Unit), you should have 5-6ltrs of oil drain out from the sump this could be considerably more if you have fuel in the sump (caused by another issue but anyway). Also at this point dont forget to check your fuel tank there is a nut at the back easy to see 14ml remove that to see if there is any water in your tank it should have settled to the bottom if the car has not been driven for awhile, I personally drained mine empty and started again I only had 15ltrs in there anyway and didnt want to risk contamination once the job was done.

The radiator drain you can undo with your hand bottom of the radiator drivers side next to the bottom radiator hose it will spray out about 2 feet when it starts so enjoy that, take the cap off the radiator.
radiatordrain.jpg
Put a tarp down as I have due to spillage hahah but thats how my coolant looked after the diesel had been mixing in it ! I had two tray's and two oil pan's which I needed due to the oil filters in such awkard places it dripped oil over the cross member and continued dripping for some time annoying but unless anyone else knows an easier way.
drainingfluid.jpg
One oil filter is found on the passenger side thats the small one Z79a $8 - $10
oilfilterz49.jpg
Second Oil Filter is found on the drivers side its a larger Z600 $22 - $25 I had to use the following tool on this one it was a really awkard position the part number I used was from Super Cheap Auto #2067 Wrench Oil Filter Turney $7.59 attached is a picture also
Access both oil filters from under the car behind the engine looking towards the front of the car you will see them, lovelly awkard position for you!

Now lets get started on the job here is a picture of the engine for your reference incase you forget once your putting it all back together

Changing front brake pads problems

Hi

Thought I would do a simple job and change the front pads on my daughter 2004 rodeo its a 4wd if that makes any difference. Anyway ripped old pads out reset pistons put new pads in. Now the fun starts as I tried to put caliper back on I could get it on at the bottom bolt on but could not get top part of caliper over the pads its almost as if the pads are too thick. This is probably the best I can explain it any ideas?

Cheers

RA dual cab 2007 has clunky noise somewhere in the rear end on harder bumps sometimes when combined when cornering.
Have replaced the shocks and rear shackles and its still there !
Exhaust doesnt appear to be hitting anywhere , spare tyre is firmly attached, Ive tightened rear body (style side) mounts.
Only done 70,000km of mostly on road work
Any ideas on where I should look next

Rattling/rolling noise coming from rear of ute

I'm getting a rattling/rolling noise coming from what sounds like the rear of my RA7 Dual Cab. I have looked everywhere and so far replaced the rear cab mounts and rear suspension. I have been underneath the ute heaps of times and have tightened every bolt I can see. I have checked the spare and anything else I can possibly think of. The noise seems to be mainly when I turn right corners and I have to be going at a reasonable speed. Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution as I am out of ideas?

ORPS reading and problems

A quick run down first....
I had diesel filling the oil and lots of white smoke.....took to mechanic (big big mistake), they said it would be the sleeves...changed them....found out it would be the injectors....took vechile out of mechanics. Upon inspection, I noticed they had broken 2 glow plugs..(great)...anyway, I changed all 4 injectors. Now no smoke, good problem fixed. Took to friends Tech2 reading was glow plugs, of course, running hot and Hi Input for the ORPS...when we reved the car the reading stayed the same, 27. Then checked coolant and discovered bubbles. Ripped head off and changed head gasket...all back together, no bubbles or smoke, problem fixed. While head was off, cleaned RPCV. Cleaned contacts etc. Replaced ORPS. Put back on tech 2 reading...Hi Input ORPS stuck on 27......RPCV at 33%. Everything else is good, although the MAP only got up to 166, so maybe a clean or a new one.

Anyway, problem at hand is the ORPS reading Hi Input Fault and reads at 27 and no movement, stuck on it. Can't be the sensor, just put new one on, just cleaned all connections. I have not checked for this "white wire cut thing" I have been reading on here though....could it be that and just in limp mode constantly?
Never had engine light come on before it went to mechanics. Could it be the ECU? When it's plugged into Tech 2 only astrix's appear not serial numbers on the load up page.
Am I missing anything else it could possibly be?

Oil Rail Pressure Sensor Valve Rebuilding for 4JX1 engine.

Hello,

A common problem i have experienced over 3 models with this engine whilst in my ownership has been this part that caused erratic running after a while (hesitation in acceleration and lumpy operation at steady throttle). I needlessly spent money replacing the wiring loom and other parts when it was finally traced to this.

Whilst in Thailand I took the liberty of going to an Isuzu dealership and purchasing what was the last part of this type in existence according to dealers database. If so I feel sorry for all other 4JX1 owners as this part will playup/fail in time and the vehicle will be a ###### to drive. I paid 8,150 Thai Baht for it which equated to AUD$271 where at the Holden dealer down here they quoted me $650 for parts that were in stock. Just a rip off for us long suffering Jackeroo owners. I would have purchased all their stock if they had more and sold it on EBay locally at even half the dealer price..

The Part number is 8-97174872-0 Valve : Rail Pressure Sensor as read off the carton the part it comes in. And guess what? It says Made in USA on the carton! Can you believe that? But it has Isuzu Motors Limited Japan genuine part written as well.

Now anyone who may know more about this componant in the mechanical field, this part is a very simple looking piece of gadgetry. What can wrong with it to cause the erratic running where I think it sends the wrong data to the ECU not allowing the correct fuel injection volumes to be sprayed into the motor.
It has this plunger type thing inside where you can push it down with a pen. Can they be dismantled and cleaned out? What can wear inside? Do they get ingested with diesel soot where the parts are prevented from functioning? Can we let it soak in solvent for a week?

I have an old one from a previuos model and the brand new in the box that will need to go into our 2002 as this vehicle has the same symptoms in the last few thousand KM's as the past ones. I feel that this may become a critical issue for owners as due to the absence of this part the entire vehicle may need to be scrapped due to it becoming undrivable.
A great 4WD where all it needed to be continued in the marketplace was a simple engine change to a 4JJ1.

Alex.
